Hyundai Motor Group Enhances Connected Car Services with Equinix Collaboration

South Korean auto giant Hyundai Motor Group has taken a significant step forward in the realm of automotive technology by deploying its dedicated private cloud platform, HCloud, at Equinix data centers. This strategic partnership aims to elevate in-car services and deliver a tailored driving experience for over 10 million connected car service (CCS) subscribers.

Enhancing the Driving Experience

Hyundai Motor Group, which encompasses the brands Hyundai, Kia, and Genesis, has set ambitious goals to double its CCS subscriber base by 2026. The company’s connected car platform is designed to provide users with infotainment, remote services, and a range of mobile applications—all accessible through robust wireless networks.

Boosting App Performance and Service Delivery

The collaboration with Equinix enhances app responsiveness and service delivery, vital components in today’s fast-paced digital landscape. Youngjoo Han, Vice President and Head of IT Infrastructure at Hyundai Motor Group, remarked on the partnership’s potential, stating that Equinix’s global data centers would improve the quality of connected car services. Enhanced user experience is made possible through reduced latency, stable global connectivity, and increased scalability of the HCloud platform.

Global Network Expansion

Hyundai is leveraging Equinix’s International Business Exchange (IBX) data centers across Asia, the United States, and Europe, as well as their Equinix Fabric. This setup not only supports HCloud’s connectivity but also facilitates interconnection with multiple public cloud providers, including Amazon Web Services (AWS). The introduction of this hybrid multicloud architecture accelerates the global rollout of connected car services while providing the flexibility required for different workloads.

Chris Jang, Managing Director of Equinix Korea, emphasized that the hybrid multicloud infrastructure allows automotive manufacturers to harness cloud services while maintaining the option to utilize secure, dedicated colocation infrastructure as needed. This adaptability is crucial for optimizing performance across various applications.

Implications for the Retail Sector

As Hyundai Motor Group innovates its connected car services, the implications extend beyond the automotive industry. Enhanced consumer experiences driven by cutting-edge technology can influence retail trends, encouraging more brands to adopt similar approaches to customer engagement and service delivery.
