Maxis Unveils Major Fiber Network Expansion in Penang, Connecting 100,000 Homes by 2027

Maxis has announced an ambitious expansion of its fiber network infrastructure across Penang, poised to connect over 100,000 homes by 2027. This extensive rollout will span all districts in the state, with a particular emphasis on high-demand urban areas, including Jelutong, George Town, Batu Maung, Bayan Lepas, and Bayan Baru, as well as significant sites in Mainland Penang.

A Step Towards a Digital Future

At a launch event held at Dewan MPKK Bandar Cassia in Batu Kawan, Penang’s Chief Minister YAB Tuan Chow Kon Yeow, alongside Maxis CEO Goh Seow Eng, marked the beginning of this transformative initiative.

“This fiber expansion aligns seamlessly with our Penang2030 vision, which aims to cultivate a smart, green, and inclusive state,” stated Chief Minister Chow. He highlighted the critical role of high-quality internet connectivity in propelling education, talent development, and economic growth. “Our commitment to enhancing digital infrastructure will ensure that every Penangite can thrive in the future economy.”

Maxis’ Commitment to Connectivity

Goh Seow Eng expressed pride in Maxis’ role in Penang’s digital evolution. “Our fiber expansion unlocks new opportunities for the people of Penang. By building our own network, we ensure high service quality, delivering fast, reliable, and secure connectivity that our customers can trust.” He emphasized Maxis’ appreciation for the Penang State Government’s supportive leadership in advancing the state’s digital agenda.

Streamlined Deployment with State Support

This expansive initiative is made possible by the Last Mile Connectivity Guidelines introduced by the Penang State Government, which streamline pole-sharing processes to expedite fiber network deployments.

Maxis currently operates over 23,000 kilometers of fiber network nationwide, serving more than half a million homes. As the company continues to expand its fiber network in Penang, it aims to meet surging demand for high-speed internet access, benefiting residents and businesses alike.

Potential Impact on Retail and Consumers

Maxis’ initiative is poised to significantly impact the retail sector and consumer experience in Penang. Enhanced digital connectivity will enable businesses to harness the power of technology, leading to improved services and innovations that cater to evolving consumer trends. As digital experiences become a cornerstone of everyday life, Penang’s push towards a connected future is likely to attract new opportunities and further establish the region as a hub of technology and innovation.
