Over recent months, Google has been diligently working on updating its applications, utilizing the Material 3 Expressive design language. A series of updates during the spring and summer saw Google renovating the chat interface of its Google Messages application, using this innovative design language. Next, the Profile Pages of Google Messages were given the Material 3 Expressive redesign. In August, the Plus “+” page for the Google Messages app underwent the same transformation.

Latest Updates to Google Messages App

With all these updates, only one more remained to be carried out on the Google Messages application – the account menu update. The account menu, accessible by opening the Google Messages app and clicking on the profile icon located in the upper right corner of the display, has now been redesigned in line with Material 3 Expressive design language. The redesigned version of the account menu now uses containers for each listing, which is a clear indicator that the Material 3 Expressive redesign has been implemented.

Redesigned Account Menu Features

The redesigned account menu now boasts of the account holder’s profile icon positioned as a large circle at the top of the page. A dedicated listing labeled “Switch account” appears underneath the “Manage your Google Account” button. The redesigned account menu page is visible in version 20250922_00_RC00 in both the stable and beta versions of the app.

The Google Messages account menu allows users to switch between different versions of the app. This is particularly useful for those with multiple Google accounts, each having access to its own version of the Google Messages app. Users can now choose which account they want to view at any given time.

In addition to this, users can also create a new profile by tapping on “Your profile”. Here, they can add a photo to their profile icon, decide who can see their name and picture, choose to view archived and blocked spam messages, mark all messages as read, and arrange for their phone number to be used to send and receive messages on devices signed into their Google account.
